KENDRICK (RICK) MERCER is a philosopher
and teacher. After graduating from law school, Kendrick
(Rick) Mercer went on to practice law in Eugene, Oregon. He later
founded the Mercer Company in Santa Barbara, California, that now
has $1.8 billion in assets under management and is one of the largest
fee-only financial advisory companies in the United States. This
incredibly successful consulting business not only focused on financial
advice to create economic freedom, but offered a philosophy for
amplifying all aspects of their client’s lives. Rick’s
unique experiences have allowed him to see life differently from
most people. In 1988, Rick founded The Garden Company and has been
leading seminars that create contexts where people can discover
their own source of joy and fulfillment to live out of their own
self-integrity every moment of their lives. Rick and his life partner,
Valori (Lori) Wood, live on an island in Lake Pend Oreille in northern
Idaho. When not teaching seminars, they sail and travel, and between
adventures, they prepare gourmet cuisine and nurture their garden
and animals.

DR. ALBERT C. (ACE) GOERIG is a nationally
known dentist who has written and lectured on practice and
financial management to dentists throughout the country. In
1991, Dr. Goerig retired as a Colonel after twenty years in
the United States Army. His interest in finances came from
experiencing many misadventures after following the advice
of well-meaning financial experts. This all changed when he
became one of Kendrick’s clients. Kendrick Mercer taught
a simple, safe philosophy of financial planning that was different
from all the other “experts.” This approach worked
and helped Ace become debt free and quickly reach economic
independence while learning to enjoy his new-found wealth and
freedom. Because the method was so different from conventional
financial advice, and so effective, Dr. Goerig worked with
Kendrick in writing the Time and Money book to share these
same ideas and a specific game plan with a larger audience.
Dr. Goerig lives in Olympia, Washington, with Nancy, his wife
of thirty-five years. They have five children. He enjoys traveling,
scuba diving, and writing.
